Medical research has proven that both primary and secondary smoke are detrimental to good health. Smoking also presents a significant fire hazard. To promote a safe and healthful environment for our patients, visitors, and staff, smoking is prohibited in the hospital and all out-patient clinics operated by Athens-Limestone Hospital. Smoking is also prohibited on the grounds of these facilities except in designated smoking areas. Please do not smoke at the hospital or clinic entrances. Please follow the signs to the covered smoking shelter outside the hospital or ask a staff member for directions.
Firearms, knives and other weapons are prohibited on the premises of all Athens-Limestone Hospital facilities.
If the fire alarm sounds, please remain calm and follow the staff's instructions.
All patient-owned cord and plug-connected electrical appliances and equipment used in patient rooms must be inspected for electrical hazards by nursing staff prior to use. All equipment must be labeled as UL approved and in safe working condition (no frayed cords, etc.) No electrical appliances are permitted within six feet of a patient's bed. Heat generating appliances such as hot plates, heaters, heating pads and coffee makers shall not be used in patient rooms. The use of other electrical appliances may be restricted. Athens-Limestone Hospital shall not be responsible for incidents related to personal electrical equipment. Please consult the nursing staff before using any electrical equipment.
Special regulations are in effect in areas where patients are receiving oxygen. Electrically operated equipment and aerosol products are not permitted in these areas. Absolutely no smoking is permitted in any room, especially where oxygen is in use or on standby.
All medications you take while in the hospital are prescribed by your doctor, dispensed by the hospital pharmacy and administered by a nurse. Patients are not permitted to administer their own drugs or keep personal medications at their bedsides, unless specifically ordered by the physician.
Wheelchairs are available on all nursing units, but getting in and out of them without assistance may be hazardous. Please ask for help from a member of the hospital staff.
Valuables or Lost Items
Please do not bring items of value to the hospital. If you do bring a valuable item, notify the admissions or nursing staff immediately so the items can be inventoried and deposited in the hospital safe. The hospital is not responsible for valuables unless they are deposited in the safe. If you lose something, please notify your nurse immediately, and we will make every effort to help you find it. Unclaimed articles are turned in to Security and kept for six months. To inquire about lost articles, call Security at extension 0.
