Mother/Baby Services

Ask the staff at Athens-Limestone Hospital what they believe is the most important aspect of the care they deliver and they will tell you caring for the whole family. Family focused care is important at Athens-Limestone because the birth of a baby is one of the most important events in a family's lifetime. At Athens-Limestone we value the experience and strive to make it the most memorable event for everyone. All you have to do is listen to the lullaby played hospital wide celebrating every birth to understand this philosophy permeates the facility.

LDRP Concept
Athens-Limestone Hospital is the first hospital in North Alabama to offer the most modern concept in obstetrical care, LDRP systems. The private LDRP suites are designed so that each phase of the birth experience takes place in one luxurious, family centered setting. The beautiful LDRP (Labor... Delivery... Recovery... Postpartum) suites have cherry cabinetry, rocking chair, rooming-in bassinet and recliner. Cherry head walls conceal the medical apparatus. Crown molding, elegant wall coverings and lovely window treatments add to the ambiance. For the new father, a comfortable recliner is waiting to provide a place to rest. Rooming-in is popular in this environment that sets the stage for a family-centered memorable experience that will last a lifetime.

The Best Start Program
A recent enhancement to the obstetrical care program at Athens-Limestone Hospital is Best Start. This program provides prenatal and postpartum care coordination services for all participants. Home visits are furnished by the ALH Home Health Department and are intended to contribute to infant health outcomes, improved maternal-infant interaction and improved use of community resources.

Educational Classes
Childbirth is one of life's most rewarding experiences, but it can also make expectant parents feel anxious. ALH offers childbirth classes taught by a certified childbirth educator (ICEA) as well as breastfeeding classes by a certified lactation consultant and tours of the mother/baby unit.

Gift Diaper Bag
In an ongoing effort to provide the very best in care, Athens-Limestone Hospital provides every mother a gift bag with educational materials and a variety of necessary and useful products. These products include an instructional video produced by the March of Dimes. The diaper bag is donated by the Athens-Limestone Hospital Auxiliary.

Fitness Opportunities
Exercise is a cornerstone to good health, and memberships to the Athens-Limestone Wellness Center are available for exercise classes to include water aerobics and offers play care if needed for the new baby and siblings.
