The Athens-Limestone Emergency Medical Services (Ambulance Service) is owned and operated by the Health Care Authority of Athens and Limestone County. We are committed to providing the highest level of pre-hospital medical care to the people of the City of Athens and Limestone County. We are an Advanced Life Support Service and operate 24 hours a day / seven days a week.
The StaffOur ambulances are all staffed with highly trained, State Licensed EMTs and Paramedics and are under the medical direction of Dr. Wayne Jones, Emergency Department physician. Each Paramedic is certified in Basic Trauma Life Support, Advanced Life Support, Advanced Pediatric Life Support, and credentialed by the State of Alabama Department of Public Health EMS Division to provide advanced services to the community. The EMS staff is in constant communication with the Athens-Limestone Emergency Physicians via radio for medical direction as needed.
Equipment and ServicesEach ambulance is fully equipped with the latest medical equipment to ensure the best possible care is provided in emergency situations. Athens-Limestone EMS provides both Basic Non-Emergency transports as well as Non-Emergency and Emergency Advanced Life Support transports. The following are some of the types of care provided:

Athens-Limestone EMS will transport patients from their residence or scene to the closest hospital or to other facilities as long as the patient is stable. Whether or not the patient is stable enough to make the transport safely is determined by the Paramedic on the scene in consultation with the Emergency Physician at Athens-Limestone Hospital. If the patient is determined not stable, he/she will be transported to the closest facility, stabilized and then transported to the facility of his/her choice.
