![]() Volunteers, community leaders and hospital personnel gathered recently to celebrate the completion of the Athens-Limestone Hospital Emergency Services Renovation Project and Capital Campaign. The renovations include five new state-of-the-art treatment rooms, a large and more efficient nurses' station, updated trauma rooms and a negative pressure room. The hospital Emergency Services now has 17 beds instead of 12 and provides a quieter more private treatment environment as well as shorter wait times. As the start time for the event grew near, ambulances were pulling in and out delivering patients and the waiting room and treatment rooms were filled up fast. Campaign Chairman Garth Lovvorn had the honor of cutting the ribbon and inviting guests to tour the new treatment rooms. Lovvorn states, "This is a great day for our community. It's been a long road and it's good to know that if you need the services of the emergency room, you have one of the very best right here in your community." In 2007, the ER treated 27,000 patients which is one third of the population of Limestone County. Anita Sowell chief of emergency services stated, "It was pretty common-place to have to take care of patients in the hallway. I won't say that we won't ever have to treat patients in the hall sometime, but we're not coming in with the expectation everyday." "The ER staff have been using the newly-expanded factility for about six weeks. As soon as construction crews left the site, we were moving in," said Sowell. At no time during the construction did the ER shut down. The Athens-Limestone Hospital Foundation with the help of the community, the ALH Auxiliary and ALH Employees secured over $750,000 for the $1.6 milion project. |
